"The turning poing in our Christian life comes when we begin to "let God be God," the day we throw all caution (fear) to the winds and look to Him to carry out His purpose for us in His own time and way." -Miles Stanford
I've been learning that when I let God be God, He works in amazing ways. In my ministry at Ames Christian School I have had the priveledge of seeing Him work in the hearts of the students. I also have been experiencing God working in my heart. The thing that is most amazing to me is when I let God be God, He gives peace. It truly is all about Him, and not about me.
"for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure."
Phil. 2:13 ESV

I am so incredibly thankful for the sabbath-rest we have in Christ's finished work, not only from trying to satisfy God through our own efforts for justification, but also for sanctification. How much more satisfying it is to "be still and know" that He is God, watching him unfold His plans by the power of His mighty hand, than it is to fumble about with my puny, paltry, feeble attempts to produce the kind of righteousness and fruit that only His Holy Spirit can and wants to effect in me. How much more exciting and joyful it is to praise His work than mine. It makes me eager to be home to praise Him in person at His feet.
So, this storm is a great example of letting God be God. We are completely helpless to go anywhere, do anything without power if the electricity goes off (even furnaces and hot water don't work without it), and the uncertainty of knowing when it will end and how long before we get dug out.
And yet, as I posted on my blog, our God is the Creator and Sustainer of this planet and its weather patterns, and He does as He pleases with His creation, though His Providence is at the same time perfectly capable of sustaining us through difficult and trying times. Romans 8:18 -- "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us."
I pray your family is warm and safe this weekend.
Good for people to know.
